It looks like praying for the sick and anointing
them with oil never stopped being done for
several more centuries of the Christian Era.

Then it began to decline because of the change
in attitudes in the church. Superstitions became
abundant and they were usually connected to
the names of saints or things instead of giving
all the glory to Jesus to whom it belonged.
