Matthew 8:17 says, "That it might be fulfilled
which was spoken by Esaias [Isaiah] the
prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities,
and bare our sicknesses."

Matthew is quoting Isaiah 53:4. The correct
translation is "Surely he hath borne our sick-
nesses, and carried our pains," for as Matthew
said, "Himself took our infirmities, and bare
our sicknesses."
